Nursing 211 – Introduction to Therapeutic Nursing Interventions

 

 TEACHING LEARNING PLAN

 

The teaching plan should include:

 

PART ONE - INTRODUCTION

1.      Background information about your client.

 

 

PART TWO - ASSESSMENT OF LEARNING NEEDS

1. Characteristics & learning capabilities of client.

Age, developmental stage and characteristics,  cognitive level, affective status,

Psychomotor skills.

 

2.      Health status

What are the learner’s needs for health promotion, risk reduction, or health problems?

           

3.      Current knowledge and skills

What does the client already know, and what skills can he/she already perform that are relevant to his/her needs.

 

4.      Motivation

Is the client motivated to change any unhealthy behaviors?

 

5.      Barriers and facilitators

What are the barriers to and facilitators of health behavior change?

 

 

PART THREE - DETERMINE EXPECTED OUTCOMES (GOALS)

1.      State the main outcome/goal of the teaching plan.

 

2.      Identify specific short term goals

 

3.      Remember to state the outcomes/goals in terms of measurable behavior.

 

 

PART FOUR - PLANNING

1.      Select content

Write content in paragraph format.  Cite references using APA format

Consider the three domains of learning (cognitive, psychomotor, affective).

 

2.      Select learning strategies.

What are the teaching methods and tools you will use?  Give rationale for method selected.

What are the appropriate methods for each learning domain?

What methods tend to promote behavior change?

 

 

PART FIVE – IMPLEMENTATION

1.      Teach your client.

 

 

PART SIX - EVALUATION

1.      Were the expected outcomes/goals met?

2.      Were the methods selected effective?

3.      What factors contributed to the success or failure of your teaching?

4.      What would you do differently next time?

 

 

PART SEVEN – REFERENCES

1.      References are to be cited using APA format.

2.   Include reference page using APA format.
