IMAGE GROUP PROJECT

This activity is designed to provide you with small group experiences as you work with the task of creating a product that reflects an image of professional nursing in contemporary society.

The outcomes of this project are to:

1.      Demonstrate ability to work constructively with a group of peers to accomplish group goals.

2.  Analyze personal and societal images of professional nursing.

3.  Demonstrate creativity in producing a product reflecting professional nursing.

4.  Use images and words to communicate ideas to a specific audience.

DIRECTIONS

1.       During a class session, you will be assigned to an “image” group.  Your group will continue to meet and work together on this specific project for the remainder of the semester.  The overall task is to create a product that reflects your understanding of professional nursing.

2.       At your first meeting, your group will need to decide which of the following modes you will select for the form of the final product the group will produce.  You may choose to do:

            a.  an informational pamphlet consisting of words and pictures.

            b.  a display board consisting of words, pictures, and/or images.

            c.  a video tape of 5-10 minutes.

            d.  a slide show of 5-10 minutes.

            e.  another format not listed above.

A representative of each group must discuss the group’s plan with the instructor before proceeding with the project.

3.       Materials for the final product will be supplied by the group.  Camera equipment may be arranged through Instructional Services.  Contact the course instructor with any questions about obtaining supplies.

4.       Your group will need to meet as often as you determine necessary to plan and develop the image product.  A small amount of group meeting time may be provided during regular class time, if possible; however it is expected that meetings will be arranged outside structured class time.

5.       A resource listing is to accompany your final product and would include person resources as well as written resources.  Remember to use APA format for documentation of all written resources.  The resource listing should include resources reviewed from popular literature, radio, television, as well as professional literature and productions.

6.       The final product is due when you will share your project with the entire class.  You may choose one person to present the product or involve the entire group in the presentation.

7.       Individual, typed self-assessments and peer assessments must accompany the final product.  The self-assessment should address your participation in the group’s activity.  Your areas of strength and areas you need to improve, as well as what you gained from this activity should be included as part of the self-assessment.
The peer assessment is your evaluation of each member of your group, such as contributions, attendance at meetings, reliability in carrying out activities, cooperation, and sharing of responsibilities.

8.    Evaluation.
The following will be used to determine your grade.
a.  content of material presented
b.  creativity involved in producing your product
c.  self-assessments
d.  peer assessments
e.  resource list using APA format
