NURSING 210:  FOUNDATIONS OF PROFESSIONAL NURSING
NURSING LEADER HISTORY PROJECT

The image of nursing within the profession, with other disciplines, and with the public has been shaped by its past.  A knowledge of past history assists us in understanding the roles that nurses play now in contemporary settings.  Through an exploration of selected nursing leaders, you will gain knowledge of the influence each leader has had on the image of nursing, nursing practice, and nursing knowledge.  We will explore nursing’s history by focusing on nursing leaders of the past in student oral reports.

The outcomes of this project are to:
1. Explore the contributions of selected nursing leaders to nursing history.

2. Describe the important points about selected nursing leaders’ personal and  professional lives.

3. Report findings to peers in N210.

4. Self-assess own ability to report pertinent facts to a peer audience.

Directions:
1.     Obtain information pertinent to your assigned nursing leader.  You may use library resources or the Internet.

2.     Prepare a 5-7 minute oral report about your assigned nursing leader to be given  to your classmates.  (See syllabus for due date).

3.     Focus the points of your report on:
        a.  personal/life information about your assigned leader which could make your leader "more alive" to your audience.
        b. information about the leader’s impertinent contributions to nursing.

4.     Self-assess your speaking performance by using the criteria sheet provided.   Turn this self-assessed criteria sheet into your instructor after you give your report.  Your instructor will give you written feedback on this form.
