NURSING 210:  FOUNDATIONS OF PROFESSIONAL NURSING
RN INTERVIEW COOPERATIVE PROJECT

The purpose of this project is to facilitate your exploration of the nursing profession within a broader social, political, cultural, and economic environment.  Professional philosophies and values held by a selected nurse in practice will be explored, as well as changes in the profession desired by that individual.

The cooperative project is a three step learning activity that you will conduct with another student in the class to:

1. a.  explore historical changes experienced by the RN during her/his career, as well as factors influencing those changes
(e.g., social, political, cultural, and economic factors).
 b.  discuss professional philosophies/values held by the interviewee.
 c.  identify the primary change in the profession desired by the RN being
interviewed and how she/he thinks that change might be achieved.

NOTE:  Prepare your interview questions ahead of time!  Discuss how the two of  you will conduct the interview, who will be responsible for what, etc.  Review  class materials from N210 & 211, re: how to interview, ask open-ended questions,  respond to what your “client’ is saying, etc.

2.   Prepare a short scholarly paper using APA format (about 5 pages).
 a.  summary of interview (a, b, & c above).
 b.  relate selected interview content to course material (use of references will strengthen this discussion).

3. Present a short (about 10 minutes) verbal summary to the class, including:
 a.  a synopsis of the interview (a, b, & c in #1).
 b.  relationship of interview content to course material.
 c.  personal experience with the interview process.
 d.  your biggest “aha!”

Evaluation will be based on your paper, presentation and partnership activities.
